There’s nothing quite like a summer fruits PYO farm. Our local one is Stonepitts and we visit on a roasting hot summer’s afternoon.
Nestled near the North Downs, we are in a pretty spot. I teach my son how to find the best berries where no-one else has bothered to look.
We slow to a steady rhythm of picking fruit under the sun and exchange small thoughts and ideas as we move up the field. Then we settle into companionable silence.
Before long our bounty grows, and so it seems it’s time to go.
But our hunter-gatherer instinct is loud, and our eyes scan bushes for the perfect berries still, even though we have plenty. It’s hard to stop.
But stop we must, with a promise to return, maybe one cool evening to savour some music. For this is the home of Folking in the Strawberries – another good reason to slow down and linger.
